Meemure

 Location: 

Meemure is a traditional village is located in the eastern slopes of "Dumbaravanapete"(Knuckles) mountain range.

The road to reach the village is difficult and you can reach the village through "Hunnasgiriya" and along the road across the village "Thangappuwa".



History :

As the legends, state Meemure has been a site of king "Ravana" habitat. They believe that the village named "Maha pabbatha" belonged to king Ravana is presently named " Meemure". And the history states that king Ravana has landed his " Dandumonaraya",vimana mythological flying machine on "Lakegala Mountain " after kidnapping Rama's wife Sitha...Beliefs states that there was an aerial to land the flying machine at the top of Lakegala Mountain .


Accordingly "Mahapabbatha gramaya" changed into "Magakisigama" and today known as " Meemure".

Environment :

Meemure is located at the foot of the eastern slopes of Lakegala surrounded by the Knuckles forest reservation . This village is enriched with natural water springs and waterfall .........Meemure village is given the accurate introduction by the villagers is the area at the foot of Lakegala with the Mee tree, Grocery shop, School and Temple .

Economy:

In the past, these villagers mainly did "paddy cultivation " and " chena cultivation ". In these chena cultivation they mainly grow sesame, millet and Green beans. In 1960s with the advancement of the economy in the village due to the cultivation of " Ensal", Cardamom Seeds( Elettaria Cardamomum) the shanties at the village developed into roofed houses. 

Feed pattern:

The meemure villagers' have fulfil their food needs since the past times from the cultivated crops and also from the supplies of the surrounding environment . For examples food with " finger millet, maize rice, maize porridge , bread, roti, pittu also Manioc, keselmuwa, sweet potato and types of locally grown potatoes are used as food.🌽🍍🧅

Social background :

To speak of social background Meemure receive a special place for medicine, astrology and religious beliefs.As the villages , state Meemure is the best place to observe the star constellation .

When we talk about local medicine , till today medicine for the body, medicine for fractures, snake medicine , sorcery, Magic and Kem Krama are used in Meemure.

Faith and Trust:

Meemure villagers' faith and trust is also very important . God " Dadimunda Bandara" and other special deities are worshiped accordingly for various purposes by the villagers'. The deities such as " Gange bandara, Kele Bandara, Vanni Bandara are also worshiped .

In addition , during every special occasion the offer the first meal to God also called as "Adathtu Pidima". And the " Nanumura Mangallaye" is a special even in the village of Meemure .

A wonderful trip to "wasgamuwa national park"

  Today in this blog I’m going to talk about a trip where I spent 3 days in a national park in Sri Lanka One of my fathers friend arrange this trip so that 4 families join with us for this trip. We went on this trip on last July.  It was a bit sunny day and we start the trip in the morning. We had our lunch in a resturant in Awissawella and we reached the Wasgamuwa national park by evening.  It was dark at that time we reached there. So we planned to have a bath from a river near the bungalow where we spent the nights. It was quite a good experience as I have not bath in a river at night time. After the bath we all came to the bungalow and had the dinner.  Afterwards all of the families got together and had a chill bye having a chat about the past days. That was the worst accident I had ever seen.............

Last year, on a day like today, we went on a family trip to yala . We left home early in the morning and reached Rathnapura around 8.30 a.m..............😍 There, in the morning we left to visit " Tissamaharama temple".🙏 Suddenly when approaching Tissamaharama we came upon a road accident .😥 I still can't imagine what happened?🙄 by the time we got already happened .we could only hear the sound Of people shouting loudly.😌 In a few times police and ambulances were soon there. The seriously injured patients were being sent to hospitals......There had been two fatalities - a little child and an old lady.😥 A number of people had head injuries, and many more with broken limbs..There  was blood everywhere and children screaming in pain...However we only had a fleeting glimpse as the traffic police kept telling vehicles to move on.
